What's not to love about fall? Crunchy leaves, crisp air, fresh-picked apples, pumpkin everything, hot mulled wine and healthy spiced cider donuts are just a few of my fall favorites. This season I've added a new item to my skincare and recipes, and that's CBD Hemp Oil.
Hold on, don't worry; there's no THC involved and no "high" can be garnered from this recipe, except maybe that good old high from eating something amazingly yummy yet still healthy. There are wonderful benefits from the hemp plant many overlook, and I add hemp into my diet through hemp seeds, hemp oil and hemp-based protein powder for health and skin benefits especially as the weather gets colder when skin changes and needs a little more TLC (not to be confused with THC). For many with eczema (including me), hemp oil can provide relief with inflammation as well as other benefits like anxiety relief and help with insomnia (1, 2).
This vegan gluten-free recipe is perfect with hot apple cider or mulled wine; make it to really celebrate the arrival of autumn or simple to fill your house with the best scent ever: homemade healthy cinnamon-sugar donuts.
Spiced Cider Donuts
3/4 cup spiced apple cider mixed with 3 TBSP coconut sugar
1/4 cup almond milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/8 tsp sea salt
3 TBSP coconut sugar (or sugar of choice)
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of ginger
1. Preheat oven to 350 and spritz two silicone donut pans with coconut or avocado oil.
2. Whisk dry ingredients together; stir dry into wet. If mixture remains clumpy you may blend it in a blender on low.
3. Divide batter into donut pans. You'll get between 9-12 depending on how deep the mold cups are.
4. Bake for 20 minutes, then let cool 5 in the pans. De-pan and sprinkle topping mixture on or place it in a bowl to pat coating all over.
