Run Goals & Training Treats
Sometimes it's hard to get going. Maybe you had poor sleep the night before, maybe a new Netflix series is calling your name, or maybe you're plain just not motivated. For me, it's my twins. They usually are the reason I can't get out the door in time, and before I know it, cancelled run plans turns into a snack and lounge fest.
Therefore, my run goal is now to get out and run--with someone. I tend to run faster and longer with a buddy or group, and my running could use a little boost. So there it is; announcing it on here will be the push; in the next month I must run with a friend or run group, and if that means plying the babies with snacks or hiring a sitter, so be it.
What's keeping you from your running goal or ideal running regime? Maybe it's the shorter days, colder weather, or like me, runny-nosed twins. Whatever it is, face that obstacle head-on and get outside or turn on that treadmill; we've got this!
I have a friend that runs a ton but always complains she then raids the kitchen and cancels out the calories she just burned. I can relate; on run days I'm often hungrier!
For a healthy treat that will fill you up without feeling you out, try these favorites of mine to keep your noshing smart and beneficial.
Make your own!
Yields 14 small treats
1 cup dried apricots
1/2 cup almonds
1/4 cup gluten-free oats
2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
2 tbsp coconut oil softened
1 tsp cinnamon
sprinkle sea salt
1. Put ingredients in the food processor and pulsed until combined.
2. Roll into little cookies and chill to firm slightly. Enjoy!
