Fresh ginger and candied ginger allow for an amazing combination of gingers in this perfectly-textured holiday cookie. Ginger is my favorite spice, and if you love a good ginger cookie too, you have got to make these. Trust.

My family helped taste-test my ginger cookie variations, and this was the ultimate winner.  They include the freshest ginger ever; the root was pulled out from the garden, scrubbed, grated and tossed in the batter, and the result was incredible!

I couldn't fall asleep one night, and instead of listening to a sleep meditation audio, taking an epsom salt bath or reading (my usual tricks), I began trying to think of what creative and healthy treat I could make.  Since my 30th was looming ahead (oh to be 29 again, ha), I thought of trying to make a healthy birthday cake, and I began reminiscing about those terrible-for-you but amazing Betty Crocker boxed rainbow party cake mixes that were the feature of so many birthday parties I attended as a child.

I have always been and will always be, in awe of my twin.  She's a Navy Pilot, has free ranging chickens outside, has fresh ginger growing in a pot in her house, and is ready to take care of you and produce anything. you. need.  Under eye cream?  Tape?  Birthday wrapping paper?  Onion cutting goggles? Kale from the backyard?  (OK, she might be a bit of a hoarder but so am I–don't you dare suggest I throw away that ribbon!)

Anyway.  Back to this super momma.  Yup, she is a new mom too, and I'm visiting her here in Whidbey Island, marveling at her energy, holiday cheer and ever present sense...

Yam, sweet potato....such a confusing root vegetable.  I'm still not 100% sure I'm using the correct name.  But I used the elf shoe-shaped root that has thin brown skin with a vibrant orange flesh, so I recommend you use it too.  Pumpkin or yam would probably work just as well, but I didn't have a 8 lb sack of anything but organic yams.  Have you scrolled ahead to the recipe by now?  I wouldn't blame you; this is a bit of sleep-deprived rambling.  But before you skip ahead too far, I'd like to point out that if you have sleep issues occasionally or always, foods like sweet potatoes can actually help....

I've been taunting you with mentions of this melt-in-your-mouth creamy squash brownie for days and finally, here it is.  Get yourself a kabocha squash (I bought a huuuge organic one from Amazon Fresh with free shipping, so this was literally the easiest route possible to obtain a perfectly ripe organic squash).  This recipe would likely work with homemade pumpkin puree as well or a thicker can one (not the runny cheap-o Libby's).

If your weakness is sugar cookies, you're in luck.  These fab sugar cookies contain the natural sweetness of carrots, the unrefined sweetness of coconut sugar and an optional bit of vanilla bean protein powder glaze; what more could you want in a sugar cookie, am I right??

Anywhoo, these sweet treats work great in tiny bite-sized cookies in say, an autumn leaf shape or really any shape desired.  Nibble a few at tea time or take to a friend's house to enjoy with wine.  (They taste delicious with tea or coffee AND wine; gotta love the versatility!)...

Oh, October.  Changing colors, crisp mornings and pumpkin spice everything.  One of my favorite months will be here in a few short days, and to celebrate, I'm stocking up on organic pumpkin and stockpiling fantastic recipes.

Ugh.  Moving, starting over, the usual in the military life.  It can be exciting, and it can be very stressful. Luckily, a little raw chocolate deliciousness helps with the stress side of things.  Plus, it's a great way to win over new friends as I learned recently.  I served this to a fellow military spouse, and next thing you know, she was inviting me to spin class with her.  Coincidence?  I think not!

You know when you find yourself at the grocery store and all of a sudden you're ravenous, and can't remember what you were supposed to buy? (Carrots? Bananas? Who knows). The next thing you know, everything sounds good.  Like twig tea. And sacha inchi powder. I'm such a nerd; as soon as the banana flour was restocked on Vitacost I actually got a little thrill and immediately added it to my online cart.  I tried banana flour for the first time in my life as soon as it arrived and was delighted at the results, though as with my first foray with coconut flour, I initially used too much flour and not enough liquid. You definitely need the oil in this recipe; otherwise it will be a little dry.  I'm now scheming on what else I can try to make a delicious grain-free version of.  You haven't seen the last of my banana flour recipes yet; that's for sure!

I prefer paying attention to what I eat, not counting calories (been there, done that). Especially now that I'm a mom of twin girls, it's really important to me to show them how food nourishes and fuels the body as well as tastes good; we can enjoy treats, avoid deprivation yet feel great after eating said treat.

For me, portion control is sometimes a struggle; one raw cookie can easily turn into 3 or 4 or 6 and the next thing I know, I am too full from eating a dense handful of dried fruit, nuts and seeds to enjoy a veggie-packed dinner!  So sometimes when I'm craving a sweet treat, I am very intentional on n...

It never fails: take twin babies out, and you'll get a barrage of questions and comments. Granted, I'm sure people with just one baby get comments and odd questions, but from what I have experienced compared to other moms, there's just something about twins that makes strangers feel the need to either ask personal questions, try to guess "which one is the evil twin" or just start listing every set of twins that they have known.

Not only do I have an easy pumpkin raw cookie recipe featuring a yummy vegan Squarebar added in (or protein bar of your choice), I also have a little diastasis recti info for you from my experience as a twin mom, NOT an expert.  But here is what's working for me in the hopes that it works for you, too!  There are some great programs like the MuTu system that has seen great results and has many wonderful reviews, but if you'd rather work on your own or can't quite spring for a program, here's a few moves.  Either way, if your insurance covers it, I recommend seeing a physical therapist in addition to...

Be warned that these are pretty addictive.  Luckily, they are pretty healthy too so you won't feel too bad if you eat the whole batch in one day, not that I'd do that (hehe).  If you like the taste of spirulina, or want to supercharge them a little more, add 1 teaspoon spirulina.  You can also use any nut butter instead of seed butter if you'd like.


This make a great post-long run treat and it's nice because it won't sit heavy in your stomach yet the texture is taste is extremely satisfying.  Enjoy!
